December 2018 blog for Claims magazine

We’ve covered an array of topics in our Claims blog over the past year ranging from legislative change to winning new business. At the end of what has been another busy (and I am glad to say, award-winning year) for us, I wanted to share news of one of our most successful and rewarding campaigns.

Like many of our panel law firms we’re committed to promoting safety issues and supporting the communities we serve. In association with Brake, the road safety charity, our strategic partners at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre at the University of Huddersfield and LW Graphics, we launched a national design a safety helmet campaign for Key Stage 2 pupils.

We were overwhelmed by the positive response, with over 4,500 competition entries from seven to 11-year olds across the country.

The judging panel comprised of Andy Cullwick, our head of marketing, as well as representatives from 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, LW Graphics, Brake, the road safety charity and The Scout Association.

They had a tough job whittling down such a high volume of entries, but in the end chose eight winners from across seven schools in Slough, Poole, Nottingham, Witney and Northampton.

The winning entries, chosen for their originality and creativity, included designs depicting a hedgehog shape helmet, a jigsaw and a road traffic signs montage.

As well as getting their own design 3D printed onto a helmet, all eight winners also received a new bicycle just in time for Christmas.

The campaign has been a positive way of supporting Brake in getting the message out about cycle safety, with a downloadable pack for all schools and entrants provided by the charity.

As a corporate partner of Brake, we’re hoping to run similar initiatives in the future.

It’s also been a positive distraction from the current continued political and legislative uncertainty facing us all.

Whatever this year has brought you, I hope you will get the opportunity to take stock, rest up and come back refreshed in 2019. We wish all the readers of Claims a peaceful festive season.
